Down Among The Dead Men
Part 3 of 4

After The Owl tells Spider-man that Electro and The Vulture are responsible for the kidnapping of Aunt May, Spidey tracks them down at a nightclub.

When Spidey and Electro begin brawling, the Vulture, powerless without his suit, dives out the window in an attempt to escape. Spidey shoots a web at Vulture, but it hits the suitcase Vulture is holding, snapping it open, and it spills $20 million dollars in cash down to the street. Electro seizes the opportunity and hits Spidey with a massive charge, sending him flying through the air, then tells Vulture to go get his suit so they can properly destroy Spider-man.

Spidey and Electro battle fiercely in the streets. Electro tells Spidey he shouldn't even be involved; that it was between the "bad guys" and he wouldn't believe the things the bad guys do that the heroes never hear about. Driven by the rage of losing the money, Electro uses his powers to hurl a bunch of small metal objects at Spidey like bullets, with no regard for innocent bystanders. Electro brags about having discovered new ways to use his powers and then uses those powers to ignite the gas tanks of nearby vehicles, possibly killing the people inside. Finally, Electro uses his power to ionize the metal around him, which acts like a magnet and sends numerous vehicles into a massive wreck, right on top of Spider-man.

Electro emerges from the pile and uses his cell phone to call Vulture, who can't travel very fast without his costume, and tells him to hurry up so he can get his licks in, before they kill Spidey. Electro is suddenly blindsided in mid-sentence by Spider-man, who tackles Electro into a building and proceeds to beat the crap out of him. When Spidey finally lets up, Electro threatens to charge every atom in the room and kill Spidey, but he doesn't realize they are in a room full of gas and propane tanks. The top of the building explodes in a massive fireball.

When the chaos settles, Spidey is barely standing, and demands to know where Electro has hidden May. Electro claims to know nothing about May until Spidey brings up the Owl, then Electro tells Spidey he's been played by the Owl. Electro tells Spidey that he and Vulture were sent to collect to collect the money for the Owl, but they decided to keep it instead and the Owl used Spider-man to get his revenge. Electro then blasts Spidey with a massive charge, which sends a nearly unconscious Spidey  plummeting down to the street. He slams into the windshield of a police car and falls to the pavement.

Spidey is rushed by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition. On the way to surgery, a civilian snaps a photo of Spider-man. The doctors briefly argue whether or not to remove his mask, due to the secret identity, and in the end the mask is torn off out of necessity.

In her hotel room, MJ calls her and Peter's apartment and leaves him a message that she is going to catch the next flight back to New York. Then she sees the news report that Spider-man has been admitted to the hospital.

Vulture, now in full costume, has also apparently seen the news footage, as he smashes his way through the window of the still unconscious Peter's room...
