We open on a trio of thugs walking the docks at night. The smallest of the three is discussing his abduction by aliens, and his subsequent replacement of all his bottom teeth because of the "weird frequencies" he was hearing. The other two mean to forcefully extract the teeth, when the third is saved in the nick of time by who other than Spider-man. The other two thugs are quickly dispatched and strung from a lamppost. Meanwhile the third one with the golden grin gazes toward the sky.

"They found me anyways." He says.

"Hoo boy. I knew I should have turned in early tonight." Retorts Spider-man, following the gaze of the other man toward the Silver Surfer.

As the Surfer moves on, Spider-man gives chase making witty quips all the while until encountering a large green visage on the underside of the Surfer's board.

"Wait, you're that space pest that always bugs the Fantastic Four... The Improbable Guy," he says.

"Impossible Man, good sir," responds... the Impossible Man.

After causing annoyance that would make Spider-man jealous were he not the recipient, including water-balloon meteor showers and snide comments about human procreation, Impossible Man reveals that he's on Earth to warn his friends, the Fantastic Four of some unnamed threat. Of course, it's late at night and if they were home, the FF would be annoyed at the intrusion, but Spider-man feels that they are most likely on some sort of inter-universal adventure or undersea diplomatic mission.

To whit, the Impossible Man recruits the webhead as his Earth hero to impart his warning to. Shifting into a green and purple version of Spidey and attempting to spin a web with a rather undignified "thwap", he finally reveals his warning to Spider-man just in time to see the threat itself enter the Earth's atmosphere just above the streets of Manhattan.

"I thought Mister Fantastic might be able to hide the planet of something. Once it lands you can say goodbye to your world as you know it," says the Impossible Man.

Spidey begins to give chase to the spaceship, but in mid-leap the Impossible Man grabs him and takes the shape of a green and purple version of... the Spider-mobile. Spidey requests another shape, something "up high." The Impossible Man complies by taking the form of a fighter jet, which Spidey thinks is "pretty cool." As they reach Central Park, the landing zone of the alien craft, our heroes see that someone... or someTHING has exited the craft. Impossible Man knows this to be "The Imperator"

At the scene of the landing, we learn that Earth has been chosen as the thirteen-thousandth, seven-hundredth and forty-third civilization to play host to the race called "H'Mojen."

Spider-man, being the only hero on the scene, jumps to action and is subsequently thrown a few good city blocks away through a box truck and into the side of a taxi. Impossible Man then makes good his attack, and fares a bit better, but in the end The Imperator realizes that his "warning repeller" (that was just a warning?) will not suffice on the Impossible Man, and releases some sort of energy blast that evidently evaporates him.

Later, we see Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, waking up reveling in a prank he pulled on Ben Grimm, The Thing, last night. Something about melting the supports on his bed almost all the way through. He steps stands up out of bed and subsequently falls off the roof of the Baxter Building. During his fall, he zooms past The Thing, looking out the window, a sign with the words "MORNING, PUNK" taped to the inside. Johnny "flames on" and yells "BEN!" almost with a fury as intense as the flames emitting from his body. He is quickly cooled down by the promise of pancakes, when the computer alerts them to an authorized guest arriving, who just happens to be Spider-man. Judging by his costume, he's a bit the worse for wear. He briefly sums up his business there, namely the "silver guys" who "want to take over the world" and made them "watch a video" before he passes out.

Elsewhere, Franklin and Valeria Richards, accompanied by their parents, Sue and Reed Richards, the Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic, are hiking in the woods when Reed gets the distress call from Ben Grimm. He is disbelieving of the news that Spider-man had to impart.

Ben and Johnny arrive on the scene of The Imperator's landing, and go to work on the "big wiffleball" (as Johnny puts it) that we learn is actually  the "Genetic Colluder" which has apparently survived lava oceans. Ben takes the opportunity to use it as a "good missile" and takes out The Imperator's spaceship with a swift kick.

The Imperator has many more tricks, however, and quickly negates any more interference the two can muster. While stuck in a chronal displacement field, Ben talks tough about Earth not letting anyone waltz in and take over. He says "They're not getting near this planet."

Just then, The Imperator opens some sort of portal and reveals that "They're already here."
