New tri-monthly Amazing creative teams revealed! Details of "Brand New Day" hinted!
This year's San Diego Comic Con International boasted a huge announcement in the form of the Spider-man panel on Saturday, officially introducing the new tri-monthly Amazing Spider-man creative team and hinting at the events of "Brand New Day". Newsarama.com reports that the panel, comprised of Marvel EIC Joe Quesada, Marvel marketing whiz Jim McCann, and Spider-Man line editor Steve Wacker, introduced the new team as they joined the discussion. The FOUR writers were introduced first: Dan Slott, Zeb Wells, Bob Gale, screenwriter of Back to the Future fame and Marc Guggenheim. Of the four new artists, only one was available for the panel - Phil Jimenez, who already has worked on Amazing with Phil Jimenez on the FCBD Spider-man tale, "Swing Shift". The other three artist spots are taken by Steve McNiven, Salvador Larroca, and Chris Bachalo.
The panel took questions from the audience ranging from the importance of "Swing Shift" on the new continuity and whether or not "Back to the Future" would be riffed in any upcoming issues. Quesada fielded a cheap shot at "that horrible Iron Spider costume" with a simple "HEY!" and the panel reinforced the idea that this would be a change for the better in the Spider-man mythos, making sure every issue was held to the lofty standards that an "Amazing Spider-man" comic should be.
